A DIFFERENT KIND OF KID SUMMER AND A MEMOIR THAT SPRUNG A LIFE

No camp, no vacation, no sleepovers so what’s a kid to do during the dog days of summer?  Mark shares ideas on how he and his wife are attempting to provide a summer that doesn’t make the kiddos feel cheated.  From building a bridge, camping to cannonballs galore – this is what summer looks and feels like!

Author, speaker and mental health advocate - Michelle Dickinson talks about how her childhood well prepared her for many things in life and though she possesses many quality traits it’s her resilience that has fueled her to succeed both professionally and personally.  And despite her challenging formative years as a child caregiver to her dear sweet mother that was bi-polar, Michelle remarkably persevered to make her life “normal”.   Hear Mark’s conversation with Michelle as she delves into her past and articulates what life was like in their household where she experienced fear, dread and elation and which she so eloquently expresses in her memoir, “Breaking Into My Life”.  Michelle’s determination and devotion to eradicate the stigma of mental illness and much more is awe inspiring. Read about Michelle’s tireless work to eradicate mental illness: https://www.michelleedickinson.com/

LAUGH FOR SIGHT AND ALL BLACK LIVES MATTER

Comedian and assictive technology expert, Brian Fischler joins Mark to talk how “Laugh For Sight” has raised vital funds for degenerative retinal diseases and how the 14th annual LFS with headliner Robert Klein on Monday Novemeber 28 and co-hosted by Mark Farrell, will continue the tradition of bringing the best comics of today to defeat degnerative retinal diseases.  www.laughforsight.com

When #BlackLivesMatter went viral in 2013, it shed a light on the urgent, daily struggles of Black Americans to combat racial injustice.  The message resonated with millions across the country.  Yet many of our political, social, and economic institutions are still embedded with racist policies and practices that devalue black lives.

Tehama Lopez Bunyasi co-author of  STAY WOKE: A People’s Guide to Making All Black Lives Matter (NYU Press, joins Mark to  shed light on the evolving effort to bring attention to the precarious nature of Black lives in the United States. Delving into history from Reconstruction through Jim Crow, and taking a hard look at today’s troubling political and social climate, the authors expose the deep roots of structural racism in America and its enduring, pervasive impact on racial inequality.  Tehama discusses the staggering statistics and data to document how Black men, women, and children are disadvantaged and devalued by negative stereotypes, discrimination, and segregation in every sector and aspect of life—from criminal justice to housing, education, and unemployment.

About: Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (FOP) is a disorder in which muscle tissue and connective tissue such as tendons and ligaments are gradually replaced by bone (ossified), forming bone outside the skeleton (extra-skeletal or heterotopic bone) that constrains movement. This process generally becomes noticeable in early childhood, starting with the neck and shoulders and proceeding down the body and into the limbs.

“Mark Farrell is a dynamic speaker who will captivate the audience by sharing his personal story of how he was able to overcome challenges in life and worked his way to success.  We scheduled Mark for 45 minutes, but our students were so engaged in his story that Mark spoke for over 1 hour.  I still have students approach me and discuss Mark's message and say, "if he could do it, so can I”

THE ALL EMCOMPASSING GIANT WORLD OF SPORT & ITS IMPACT ON YOU, SLEEPING IN THE STREETS TO ELIMINATE HOMELESSNESS

Boston College faculty member and author Michael Serazio joins Mark to discuss his new riveting and eye-opening new book “THE POWER OF SPORTS: Media and Spectacle in American Culture”.  The immense power of the big sports world to the local ball fields – how athletes (novice to pro), parents and  viewers are hooked into the endless sports cycle that can leave both a financial and time deficit in our lives. Drawing on in-depth interviews with dozens of high-profile leaders and professionals in sports media and journalism, as well as those in the business and marketing of sports, the author reveals how sports reflect and influence issues and trends relating to not only identity and community but also technology, commerce, masculinity, patriotism, violence, and religion.

Kirsten Corley of NJ Covenant House will not rest until youth homelessness declines and is doing so through innovative programs and events like hosting “sleep outs” in various areas in NJ that promote the vital need for funding, employment readiness, providing tools for youth to succeed and much more.  Want to leave your comfy home for a night to help abolish teen homelessness…learn morewww.sleepout.org
